About this Event
Take action to support La Resistencia, "a grassroots organization led by undocumented immigrants based in Washington State working to end the detention of immigrants and stop deportations." FBC Seattle supports La Resistencia's goal to end immigration detention in Washington State.
On this two-part day, we will start the day birding together at Billy Frank Jr. National Wildlife Refuge in Olympia and then join a Solidarity Day* action held outside the Northwest Detention Center (NWDC) in Tacoma. Learn more about La Resistencia's work here and click here for their explainer on the detention system.
SCHEDULE
• Morning: self-organized carpools from Seattle, Tacoma, and other locations as drivers are available. The link to sign up as a driver or a rider for a carpool will be sent to all registrants separately. Please try to join a carpool to minimize the travel footprint of this outing.
• 10:00 am: Birding at Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually NWR in Olympia.
• 12:00 pm: carpools depart for the Northwest Immigrant Detention Center in Tacoma.
• 1-4:00 pm: Participate in Solidarity Day actions at NWDC.
*Note: Solidarity Day actions planned by La Resistencia are weather-dependent. We have alternate plans for actions on October 23 in lieu of attending a Solidarity Day should the need arise. Please keep October 23 open for learning and taking action, regardless of the weather.
Q: Can I come for just the birding and not the Solidarity Day?
A: You can meet us for the Solidarity Day and not the birding, but if you want to come birding, please be prepared to join the Solidarity Day.
