Both of these locations are great for wintering waders, shorebirds, waterfowl and a few raptors. Bring lunch and a beverage.
This trip is appropriate for birders of all experience levels, including beginners. Carpooling is helpful due to very limited parking.
Hike rating: Category 2 - Moderate. Walking some distance and gentle slopes.

Directions: Carpoolers meet at 7:30 AM at Sunvalley Mall, in the southwest part of the parking lot, north of the Domino's Pizza.

To meet at Las Gallinas at 8:30AM: Take I-680 across the Benicia Bridge (toll). Go west on I-780 to I-80 towards Sacramento, exit to SR 37. Follow SR 37 22 miles to US 101 south and exit at Lucas Valley Road/Smith Ranch Road. Cross under the freeway to the east on Smith Ranch Road for 0.6 miles, cross the railroad tracks and turn left. Follow the road around the hill 0.7 miles until arriving at the Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District parking lot.
