Sat., September 21 | 8:30 – 11:30 am | Members: $50; Non-Members: $55 | Allegheny FrontMeet up with a National Aviary Ornithologist Bob Mulvihill for a morning of birdwatching. Hone your bird identification skills or learn birding basics as you explore some of western Pennsylvania’s most beautiful locations.
Take the scenic route to one of Pennsylvania’s most beautiful landscapes: the Allegheny Front in the Laurel Highlands. Raptors like Sharp-shinned Hawks and even Golden Eagles migrate through this area in the fall, riding the winds that sweep along the sharp ridges of the valley. The Allegheny Front Hawk Watch, comprised of official counters and other volunteers from the Allegheny Plateau Audubon Society, will welcome all National Aviary guests and give you an introduction to the place and the project.
Birdwatchers will also see a fantastic view from the ridgeline looking down on potentially hundreds of raptors migrating through the valley below.
This Birding Expedition is open to participants 6 and older; those under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult.
