Birding by Ear at Samish Crest Trail

Parking: Meet at the Samish Crest trailhead at the Racine Street dead end. Street parking is available along Racine.
We will walk the lower Samish Crest trails of the Samish Hill Open Space adjacent to the Puget neighborhood, using the main trail (wide with crushed gravel) and also side trails (smaller, uneven, and full of roots and rocks).
We will listen (and look) for spring warblers such as Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Gray, and Orange-crowned as well as year round regulars like Spotted Towhee, Bewickâs and Pacific Wrens, Red-breasted Nuthatches, Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers. We will talk about techniques for learning bird call and song and discuss the pros and cons of using Merlin Sound ID.
