Meet at Semiahmoo County Park parking lot.
With winter closing in on us, we can hope to find the full contingent of wintering birds present on the eelgrass beds along Semiahmoo Spit in December. It is possible to find over forty species of birds on and along the spit at this time of year. But remember that the weather can be a challenge. Please check the forecast and dress appropriately. We usually aim to walk the length of the spit and back, as weather allows, a distance of nearly three miles.
We can probably locate over 40 species of birds on and along the spit at this time of year, including fifteen or more species of waterfowl, two species of cormorants, two or three species of loons, three or more of grebes, herons and kingfishers, several species each of shorebirds and gulls plus eagles and possibly other raptors. On the spit we should find crows, starlings, chickadees, house and possibly purple finches, juncos, towhees, wintering and resident sparrows among others.
Beginning birders are more than welcome and all should feel free to ask questions and for help as needed. Though the weather can sometimes be challenging, we almost always have a very pleasing outing. Please join us.
