Meet at Semiahmoo County Park parking lot.
Wintering water birds should become more numerous at Semiahmoo in early March as they begin to move northward. All together, we will hope to be anticipating the promise of Spring. At this season we can usually find over 40 bird species if weather conditions are good. That should include about a dozen species of ducks, two species each of geese and cormorants, three each of grebes, loons, and gulls and a few species of shorebirds. Bald Eagles are nesting in the area and Anna’s Hummingbirds and Belted Kingfishers are usually nearby. On the spit we can expect to find about a dozen species of passerines and we can hopefully keep our eyes and ears open for something unexpected.
Please do check the weather in advance and come prepared accordingly. Whether you are an experienced birder or just getting started, you are welcome. Please feel free to ask questions and for assistance as needed. Under good conditions, we usually aim to walk the length of the spit, partially on the beach and on the paved walkway, a distance of about three miles. Please register and join what is always an amiable group of birders.
