Meet at Semiahmoo County Park parking lot.
Birding at Semiahmoo is almost always a positive experience, but it can be especially so as we enter the winter months. However, it is always wise to check the weather forecast and be prepared for possible wind, rain or freezing conditions. If you are prepared, winter birding at the spit is often outstanding. We can expect to see about forty species of birds there at this season, if conditions permit.
We can expect to see three species of loons, three species of grebes, maybe all three species of wintering scoters, possibly a dozen other species of ducks including Harlequins and Long-tailed Ducks, scaups and goldeneyes, two species of cormorants, Bald Eagles, herons and several species of shorebirds, gulls and passerines.
This is a great location to get acquainted with our local wintering waterfowl. Beginning birders are very welcome. Please join us on the beaches of Semiahmoo and Drayton Harbor, an Audubon designated Important Bird Area.
Be prepared not only for the weather but for a good time with birds and other birders.
