ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.Birding and Botanizing Mead and Leu Gardens March 15, 2025
7:30-11:30
Leaders : Alan Shapiro and Glen Blaser
Join Orange Audubon Society as we explore two local botanical gardens learning about plants for birds while searching for early migrant warblers and unusual residents.
Led by plant expert and local birder Alan Shapiro joined by Glenn Blaser, we will explore the flora and fauna at both Mead Botanical Gardens and Harry P. Leu Gardens.
We will begin our morning at Mead Gardens at 7:30, searching for warblers, vireos, thrushes, kinglets, raptors, owls and other resident and migrant birds.
Then at 8:50 we will drive the short distance to Leu Botanical Gardens where Alan will point out the very diverse collection of plants that you can install to attract birds, bees, and butterflies.
Glen and Alan will help you search for early migrant warblers and other songbirds. We may even get lucky and see the partially leucistic Northern Cardinal known as Candy who has been a resident for the past few years.
This trip is free, but there is a $15 admission charge at Leu Gardens unless you have a membership or are an American Horticultural Society member.
This trip is limited to 20 participants.
This field trip is free but spots are limited.
