Join Alan Shapiro and Pete Johnson on a Biking and Birding Expedition starting at Orlando Wetlands. We will meet at 8:00 a.m. in the parking lot and pedal through beautiful parts of the Wetlands that can't be easily accessed by walking. Traveling in early morning by bike, we can cover more territory than if hiking, so we are likely to see a greater number of bird species and other critters like otters, gators, deer and bobcats.
Bring your own bikes and plenty of water, sunscreen, bug spray, a snack, a good hat, binoculars, camera, and anything else you may need for a 3 1/2 hour bike ride. We will be going slow and stopping frequently, so you need not be an expert cyclist to participate. Pedal-assist bicycles are not permitted at Orlando Wetlands .
If you have questions, contact Alan Shapiro at [email protected]
Possible sightings include Ring-necked duck, Black-bellied Whistling Duck, Mottled Duck, Lesser Scaup, Sora, Virginia Rail, Northern Harrier, Bald Eagle, Belted Kingfisher, American Kestrel , Vermillion Flycatcher, Sedge Wren, Marsh Wren, Swamp Sparrow, Common Yellowthroat and Painted Bunting. Mammal sightings may include River Otters, White-tailed Deer and Bobcats.
