This 90-minute class will look at ways in which studying bird behavior can teach us how to photograph them. The Mourning Dove is very cooperative as it sits still for a shot, but chickadees are always in motion making them hard to capture with the lens. Lighting, composition, and technical issues will be discussed. Individual camera settings will not be discussed. Marty Hassell worked at the New England School of Photography from 1980-2015. During her 35-year tenure, Marty held various positions at the school including Dean of Students and Academic Director. Her photographs have appeared in the Venture Inward Magazine and she has been a photo historical consultant for a number of projects.
Marty writes, “The minute my first black and white photo emerged in the darkroom tray back in 1973, I knew my life had completely changed. As the photo emerged as if by magic from the plain white paper, I had a feeling of awe and awakening I can still remember today. Photography has always been a spiritual practice for me.”
Tickets are $20 and all proceeds benefit the Provincetown Conservation Trust's mission of preserving and protecting wetlands and woodlands in Provincetown.
