About this Event

BIPOC Therapist Social

Come join us at McCarren Parkhouse for a BIPOC Therapist Social!

This is an opportunity for BIPOC Therapists to breathe, share, and be in community with others who understand the unique weight we carry in this work. So often, we pour into others while holding the complexities of our identities, often in isolation. But healing work isn’t meant to happen alone.

Whether you're a seasoned therapist, just starting out, or somewhere in between, you are welcome here.

Guest Speakers

Lowell VanBiene, LMSW (they/he)

Lowell is a Black, queer, disabled, neurodivergent, non-binary therapist working with adult individuals, couples, and polycules. They approach therapy from a Relational-Cultural lens, prioritizing a solid therapeutic relationship as the foundation for all growth. Lowell is Level 1 trained in IFS (Internal Family Systems), and uses this therapeutic modality to frame the work. When appropriate, Lowell also borrows from other modalities in which he is trained, including EFT (emotion focused therapy), Sex Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and Attachment Theory. Lowell’s philosophies in therapy are grounded in trauma-informed, anti-racist, s*x & k*nk-positive, liberation-centered and intersectional feminist practice. Lowell prioritizes working with communities with whom they share personal connection, including: LGBTQIA+, polyamorous/ENM, BDSM/kink, SW, SA/DV survivors, neurodivergent, chronically ill & disabled. Lowell is a first-year candidate at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy Sex Therapy Program, a Joycelyn Elders Honorary Scholarship recipient, and current AASECT member.

Isabel Figueroa Fernández, M.A., Ed.M. (she/her/ella)

¡Hola a todes! My name is Isabel Figueroa Fernández, and I’m a proud Boricua from San Juan, Puerto Rico, raised between Philadelphia and Princeton. I recently earned my Ed.M. in Bilingual Latina/o Mental Health Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University. My research has focused on uplifting Latino voices in education and healthcare, and my clinical experience in community mental health showed me how deeply policy shapes access to care—sparking my passion for systems-level change.
As a Fellow and Policy Consultant with the Hispanic Latino Behavioral Health Center of Excellence’s Public Policy Academy, I collaborated with the state of North Carolina to develop policies that strengthen behavioral health services for Latino communities. I’m also passionate about creating spaces that foster community and mentorship, believing that collective care and connection are at the heart of healing.
