Speaker running order
Rachael Smith -
member of the Sheffield Green Parents Group.
Rachael is a full time mum to two young daughters. She spends her days inspiring them to develop a great love of nature and has been surprised to learn that this is harder than she thought it would be.
In her short presentation Rachael will describe the reasons she felt compelled to act on the biodiversity emergency and why she thinks it’s vital to involve pre-school and primary age children in any plans or actions. She will then go on to explore the many barriers that prevent young families from developing a close relationship with nature, finally providing an argument to show that if these barriers are not addressed then the restoration of nature could prove futile.
John Grant -
Is a Senior Lecturer and at Sheffield Hallam University also an academic adviser on Sheffield City Council's Green City Partnership Board on sustainability strategies and climate change working for a "Zero Carbon Sheffield by 2030" and on the committee for the "Environmental Hub" organisation, the Sheffield Climate Alliance.
