Aled Deakin and his team at DeakinBio will be showing us their approaches to bio-composites, sustainable alternatives to things like concrete and ceramic tiles, for an in person workshop to kick off our new DoESMaterials group at DoESLiverpool.
DoESMaterials is a group at Liverpool's friendly co-working maker-space for anyone interested in experimenting with new and old hybrid materials and being quite open to what counts as a material and a technology. Each meeting in person in the space and online will be about fostering support for exploring the materials we can use and make with and can be found in our event calendar
It evolved from our Wearable Tech Group exploring hybrid electronic and textile making and has now widened out to a group sharing knowledge and practice for all kinds of experimental and established material making. We've done fabric sensors, recycled plastic fashion and weaving, plotting, home dyeing with natural substances, pleating techniques and experiments with biomaterials like algal bioplastics and kombucha leather.
