Join the Pittsburgh Park Rangers for a Bioblitz in Emerald View Park as part of the City Nature Challenge! This event is a hands-on way to explore local biodiversity while contributing to global citizen science efforts using the iNaturalist app.
What to Expect
1. Meet the Park Rangers & Learn About Emerald View Park
Start with an introduction to the park’s diverse habitats and an overview of the event.
2. How to Use iNaturalist
Rangers will guide participants in using iNaturalist to document wildlife.
3. Guided Exploration & Wildlife Observation
Groups will explore woodlands, meadows, and overlooks, identifying plants, fungi, insects, and wildlife. Spring brings sightings of colt’s-foot, redbuds, and violets, along with migrating warblers and other birds. Watch for foxes, deer, and salamanders in the forested areas.
4. Wrap-Up & Community Science Impact
Participants will share their most exciting finds, and Rangers will highlight key discoveries and their importance in urban ecology.
