Led by Avi Salloway (Bombino/Hey Mama), the band blends American folk and rock with Saharan influences, creating a sound that nods to Devendra Banhart, Beck, and Tinariwen. Their music is rich with ancient rhythms, art-rock textures, expansive guitars, violins, synths, and drum machines, while Salloway’s lyrics channel the spirit of Leonard Cohen and Thom Yorke. With performances at Coachella, Newport Folk Fest, and Lincoln Center- and collaborations with Jack Johnson, Pete Seeger, and Bombino- Billy Wylder is, as WBUR puts it, “carrying the torch” of art rock pioneers.
