Billy and The Kids Bluegrass is a talented bluegrass family band based out of Jacksonville, NC. They regularly showcase their bluegrass performances in Gatlinburg, TN, and throughout the East Coast. Billy Murphy, the father, plays the banjo, guitar, and dobro while also providing lead and harmony vocals. His daughter Brandi Jo, 17, contributes with her mandolin, guitar, and fiddle skills, along with her own lead and harmony singing. Landon, 14, plays the bass and takes on some lead singing duties, while 12-year-old Jacob plays the cajón and spoons and also lends his voice to lead singing. Katlyn Humphrey, a family friend, adds to the mix by playing guitar, bass, and mandolin, as well as performing lead and harmony vocals.Ricky Tew has had a passion for music since he was a small child and has been playing music regularly since he was a teenager. Ricky has always primarily played gospel music, but Ricky says when he retired several years ago, he started going to Lorraine’s Coffee House and Music and that Lorraine’s inspired him to start playing bluegrass music. Shorty after his newfound inspiration, Ricky decided to form “Called To Bless” (a bluegrass/gospel band) and recruited Dennis Cash and Bob Dotson as core members of his Called To Bless band. Dennis and Bob have both played bluegrass music their whole lives, including professionally for many years. Additional singers and musicians are added to the band as needed. Ricky says Lorraine’s Coffee House and Music has been instrumental in his appreciation for bluegrass music and that he is always especially excited to be singing and playing at Lorraine’s.
