BILL'S OBITUARYCelebrating the Life of William Francis Tydings III
On Sunday, November 14, 1948, the world was blessed with the arrival of William Francis Tydings III, and on March 29, 2025, he peacefully returned home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Though his earthly journey has ended, the legacy of his love, faith, and quiet generosity will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.
To know Bill was to experience a rare kind of grace, unwavering kindness, steady faith, and a heart that never hesitated to make space for others. As a proud and dedicated Local 26 Union Electrician, Bill didn’t just build a career, he built up people. He mentored countless individuals, helping them find not only a trade, but a sense of purpose and direction. He never sought applause or recognition, his reward was watching others grow and thrive.
Faith was the foundation of Bill’s life and his guiding light. In his younger years, he served faithfully as a leader in his church’s youth group, The Pathfinders, where he instilled in young hearts a love for God, an appreciation for nature, and the essential skills for navigating life. That same servant’s heart continued to grow with him. Later in life, Bill founded a homeless ministry in Washington, D.C., personally preparing and delivering meals to those in need.
He offered not only food, but compassion, dignity, and a reminder that they mattered. Many of the individuals he served remained in contact with him over the years, a powerful reflection of the genuine connections he built through simple acts of love.
Bill was a man of quiet strength and deep humility. If you needed help, he was there, no fanfare, no questions asked. Whether as a devoted friend, mentor, or neighbor, he showed up with a heart full of love and hands ready to serve. He was a helper, a doer, and above all, a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in passing by his parents, William F. Tydings Jr. and Doris P. Tydings. Left to carry his memory is the love of his life, Barbara Tydings—his devoted wife, best friend, and steadfast companion. Bill often spoke of how blessed he felt to have her by his side through every season of life. Her love was his anchor, and their bond was one of deep devotion, resilience, and joy.
Bill’s legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren, each of whom reflects a part of his character and values. He is survived by his three sons: William Frank Tydings (Heather), Kevin Tydings (Shana), and Andrew Tydings (Michelle), as well as his stepdaughter Jennifer Mobley (Justin). He also played a loving and supportive role in the lives of his stepchildren: Andrew Blackwell (Misti), Becky Lawniczak (Ron), Elizabeth Collins (Cody), and Daniel Nimmo (Amelia).
He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren: William Frank, Andie Marie, Allison, Michael, Cameron, Elijah, Joshua, Rachel, and Katelynn—and four step-grandchildren: Brandon, Jackson, Hunter, and Ashton. Each of them carries his spirit, his stories, and the warmth of his love.
Bill Tydings was a man who lived to lift others up, a dependable friend, a faithful servant, and a quiet force for good in this world. Though we grieve his passing, we also celebrate an extraordinary life filled with meaning, purpose, and heart. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped, the hands he held, and the love he poured into his family, his community, and his faith.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Bill’s extraordinary life at his Celebration of Life service, held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 3:00 PM, at Grace Seaford Baptist Church in Seaford, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Aphasia Association, a cause close to Bill’s heart.
