Practice the skills you need to bike for transportation! This class is great for folks who know how to ride and want to get more comfortable
About this Event

Are you newer to bicycling and want to get more practice before hitting the roads? Has it been awhile since you’ve gotten on your bike and you’re itching to get back in the saddle?

Then you’re a perfect fit for SVBC’s Biking Basics On-Bike class!

This class is a 3-hour outdoor workshop where you will learn and practice bike handling skills and navigating situations you'll encounter biking on the road. You will work in small groups with our certified League Cycling Instructors (LCI) to improve your bicycling skills, keep you safe, and keep you pedaling!

This class is a must for folks who are newer to bicycling or who have some experience and are looking to gain more confidence. It is ideal for folks who already know how to balance and pedal but who may not be ready for our more advanced Smart Cycling Part 2 class. Beginner to intermediate riders and commuters are encouraged to attend! You’ll learn things like:

  • Helmet fitting
  • Starting and stopping
  • Signaling with hand signals
  • Basic rules of the road
  • How to navigate roads by bike

The class is held outdoors in the Berryessa Transit Center Parking lot at https://goo.gl/maps/fVTKaVZgM8XuTYHd6 . If you drive to the class, there is a $3.50 parking fee there.

Things to bring:

  1. Bicycle (must be in good working condition)
  2. Helmet
  3. A reusable water bottle and a snack if desired (refreshments and prizes of biking gear given to partipiciants)

Please add a ticket for each participant (separate names). There is limited capacity. Please cancel your order if you are no longer able to make it so someone else interested can attend.

This class is provided to the public for free with funding from 2016 Measure B courtesy of VTA.
