The 2024 Bike Walk Summit, Nebraska's only statewide gathering of active transportation and trail advocates, will bring together professionals, community leaders, and citizens to discuss and advance sustainable mobility across the state. Hosted by Bike Walk Nebraska, this year's summit will spotlight Nebraska's role in a national, multi-use trail: the Great American Rail-Trail. The 3,700-mile, cross-country trail includes over 590 miles within Nebraska, with a good portion featuring The Cowboy Trail. When complete, the trail is estimated to generate millions in tax revenue and visitor spending for the state.
National representatives of the Rail to Trails Conservancy are hosting a luncheon for attendees to learn about the project's status and the importance of investing in its completion for Nebraskans and beyond.
Additional sessions will explore strategies for advocating for trail development, identifying ways towns along the trail can flourish, and engaging with local governments to prioritize infrastructure investments.
This year's summit also features conversations on vulnerable road user and distracted driving laws, trail networks, and equitable infrastructure developmentāall aimed at building a more walkable, bikeable Nebraska.
