About this Event
Big Migration Salamander Volunteer Information and Training Session
Monday, February 24, 6pm – 7pm
It is getting close to the time of year again for the Big Migration - the annual salamander and other amphibian migration from their year-round forest territories to their breeding pool at Henry Street in North Amherst.
We will have a presentation on the natural history of yellow-spotted salamanders and the history of the Henry Street salamander tunnels. These are the first amphibian migration tunnels installed in North America in 1987. In addition, we will discuss how you can help us prepare for the excitement of the Big Migration and assist the Henry Street yellow spotted salamanders on their journey – the first rainy nights of spring when temperatures remain above 40 degrees.
