About this Event
To celebrate the launch of BIG LIGHT, Merseyway Workshop's brand new photographic darkroom, we are hosting an exciting series of photographic and thematic workshops, made possible with support from UKSPF.
Join artist and photographer Kat Wood for a guided photo walk around Stockport, focusing on portrait photography with black-and-white film. Participants will explore the town together, learning how to approach portraiture in public spaces, work thoughtfully with natural light, and shoot intentionally on analogue film.
The workshop continues at Merseyway Workshop with a hands-on introduction to developing black-and-white film. Kat will guide participants through the whole process, from shooting to development, offering insight into analogue photography.
This workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some experience. If you have a camera of your own, please bring it in! If not, don't worry - we have a bank of basic 35mm point-and-shoot cameras that you can use. B&W 35mm film will be provided.
If you're keen to learn the next step, we will be hosting Ela Skorska the following week on the 31st Jan, for a photographic printing workshop. Snap up a ticket if you can!
The workshop will take place between 10AM-5PM.
10AM-12PM: Photo walk
12-1PM: Lunch break
1-3PM: Film developing

This is a FREE workshop requiring a £10 deposit which will be returned to you upon your attendance of the event. We do it this way to prevent no-shows. If payment of the deposit will be a barrier to your participation in the event, please get in touch and we will be happy to come to an arrangement.
Spots for this workshop are very limited. In the event that you are no longer able to attend, we ask that you let us know by email ([email protected]) with as much notice as possible so that we are able to transfer your ticket to somebody else, rather than your spot going to waste.
This workshop contributes to a programme of events running alongside Amoeba's exhibition at Stockroom, launching on 29th January.

• Everything. Option to bring your own 35mm analogue film camera.
What to bring
• Clothes you don't mind getting messy in.

• We are within a short walk from Stockport train and bus station. Parking is available at the Merseyway Shopping Centre NCP.
Refunds and Booking Terms
• This is a FREE event with a refundable £10 deposit, which will be returned to you upon attendance of the event. Please only book a ticket to this event if you are available and fully committed to attending the event.
