About this Event
Big Bots is a hands-on, engaging workshop in which you work as a group to create a 6 foot robot sculpture from electronic waste. This unique experience is sure to get your tinker juices flowing!
Each group will dismantle the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), design a 2D sculpture and build part of the final robot. Once finished, the completed robot will be displayed in Stockport for you to visit whenever you like!
Suitable for ages 7+
Sign up for one of two sessions on Sunday 23rd November:
Sessions on Sunday will be 2 hours long (due to Stockroom opening times)
- 11:00 - 1:00pm
- 1:30 - 3:30pm
What you’ll do
Join other tinkerers to:
- Design a robot with a unique story
- Use tools to dismantle waste products and put your sculpture together
- Think about waste in a new way
- And, of course, build a giant robot!
Who’s this for?
- Ages 7+ (u12s must be accompanied by an adult)
- We can't accommodate younger siblings for safety reasons
- Accompanying adults do not need to book a ticket
What do you need to bring?
All equipment is provided. But if you have electronic waste at home that you would like to use, please feel free to bring it with you.
Additional information
Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.
Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Every under12 booking automatically grants entry to an accompanying adult.
Due to venue size, we ask that you don't bring more grown-ups or non-participating siblings so that everyone has plenty of room to create!
Due to safety reasons - lots of sharp objects! - we cannot accommodate younger siblings.
Cost
This event is free to attend. We charge a £5 booking fee, which is refunded on attending the event. Or, if you prefer, you can leave it as a donation to MadLab CIC to support future community-led events. Refunds will be processed within seven working days. About the facilitator
Mark Haig is a maker and engineer with over 40 years of experience making robots. He is the creator of Gizmobots: robot artworks made from salvaged treasures found at car boot sales, skips, and scrapyards. Some are just decorative, while others have functions such as lights, radios, or Bluetooth music players!
