Big Apple Workshop. Saturday, May 11th, 3 - 5 pm
We're going to take two hours and learn as much as we can of The Big Apple Routine as choreographed by Frankie Manning for Whitey's Lindy Hoppers and featured in the 1939 film, Keep Punchin'.
This challenging solo jazz routine is still widely performed by lindy hoppers all around the world, and is FULL of great jazz step vocabulary and musicality.

Quick history: Even though we will be learning the Whitey's Lindy Hoppers routine, The Big Apple was originally a group circle dance created in the 1930s by young African Americans in South Carolina. A caller would announce steps for the dancers in the circle, and dancers could also enter the center of the circle to throw down (like how we do jams today!) It was named after the Big Apple Night Club in Columbia, SC and gained widespread popularity after being discovered and performed by white teenagers.
Admission: $20 at the door. $15 when you register on our site in advance

Come have fun, build a community, and DANCE!
