About this Event

If you know me, you know I'm no stranger to going large. Why? Because it's fun... magnetic... freeing... plus, it's more doable/affordable than most think!

Join me as I share my own process for going "big and bad" plus other tricks of the trade.

Students will learn about artists who also work larger-than-life and the different stages of a painting as I guide you through the process. The result: a large, mixed media 4ft x 6ft painting!

How will you get it home? That, too, we will learn more about, but know ahead of time that your painting will be completed on unstretched canvas.

Using bold brush strokes (connecting body to canvas) and discovering the right tools with a little pre-planning advice, students will walk away confident and comfortable with creating "monumental" works of art.

NOTE: this is an intensive workshop, for experienced artists who are intermediate or advanced.

Supplies:

  • Various brushes of all sizes—especially chip brushes!
  • Various colors of acrylic paint (soft body, fluid, and hi-flow consistencies work best)
  • Any large tools you already own—or find around home (flat course grater, silicone spatula, silicone bowl scraper, silicone squeegee, large grouting sponge, microfiber duster, putty knife, taping knife, masonry brush, etc...)
  • Any large drawing materials you already own (Art Crayons, Art Graf squares, Solid Marker, Woodies, Neocolor II's, Derwent XL Charcoal, Lyra XL Graphite, R&F Pigment Sticks, etc...)
  • Recycled 4oz–16oz food jars with lids for left over paint—and there will be (start saving)
  • Viva or Blue Shop Towels—to mop up watery messes
  • Instructor will supply everyone with a 48 x 72 inch canvas and its support, plus other supplemental materials.
