A Budapest International Film Festival Cinescape programja ezúttal a város szívébe, a Budapest Városháza dísztermébe hív, ahol a Fővárosi Közgyűlés szokott ülésezni. Itt vetítjük Horvátország idei Oscar-nevezését, a Rotterdami Filmfesztivál fődíjas dokumentumfilmjét, a Fiume o morte! című alkotást.
A film az Osztrák–Magyar Monarchia összeomlása utáni időszakban, 1919-ben Fiuméban játszódik, ahol a személyiségzavaros költő Gabriele D’Annunzio, katonai erővel elfoglalja a várost, és önmagát kiáltja ki uralkodónak. Igor Bezinović innovatív, a dokumentumfilm formáját játékosan, szinte vígjátékszerűen újraértelmező alkotása hétköznapi rijekai polgárok közreműködésével idézi fel D’Annunzio 16 hónapos groteszk uralmát.
A vetítés után beszélgetésre kerül sor két történész részvételével: Juhász Balázs, az ELTE BTK Új- és Jelenkori Egyetemes Történeti Tanszék egyetemi docense, valamint Egry Gábor, a Politikatörténeti Intézet munkatársa osztja meg gondolatait a film történelmi hátteréről.

BIFF Cinescape: Watch Fiume o morte! in the City Hall Ballroom!
As part of the Budapest International Film Festival’s Cinescape program, we invite you to a truly special screening in the heart of the city - inside the grand Ballroom of Budapest City Hall, the very place where the Budapest City Council usually holds it's meetings. We’ll be screening Fiume o morte!, Croatia’s official Oscar submission and winner of the Grand Prize at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
On the ruins of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1919, a delusional poet, Gabriele D’Annunzio, seizes the city of Fiume by military force and proclaims himself its ruler. His grotesque 16-month reign is brought to life by the citizens of Rijeka in Igor Bezinović’s innovative documentary - a playful, almost comedic reimagining of historical events.
Following the screening, join us for a conversation about the film’s historical and political resonance with historians Balázs Juhász, associate professor at ELTE BTK's Department of Modern and Contemporary Universal History, and Gábor Egry, researcher at the Institute of Political History.
