Welcome to the International Bicycle Film Festival! Join us at the Malaspina Theatre for a celebration of all things cycling. Get ready for a day filled with exciting films, inspiring stories, and community vibes. Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or just enjoy a leisurely ride, this event is for you. For 25 years, Bicycle Film Festival (BFF) has been celebrating bicycles through film, art, and culture in over 100 cities worldwide, from New York and Tokyo to Paris and Istanbul. Now, BFF returns to Nanaimo for an unforgettable evening that connects our community to this global movement.

This isn’t just a screening, it’s a celebration of creativity, movement, and community.



Evening Schedule


  • 5:00 PM – Doors Open
    Enjoy catered appetizers, non-alcoholic specialty drinks, and water while connecting with local community vendors. Explore what’s new in Nanaimo, what’s coming in 2026, and enter to win prizes.
  • 6:00 PM – Theatre Seating Opens
    Guests move inside and take their seats.
  • 6:30 PM – Screenings Begin
    A curated program of international short films in English, with subtitles included.
    (Screenings run continuously until 8:00 PM, no intermission.)

Once you’re inside the event, everything is included:

  • Catered appetizers with vegetarian and vegan-friendly options
  • Fresh donuts from Harbour City Donuts
  • Non-alcoholic drinks & water
  • Private attended bike valet (for all attendees)
  • Access to all BFF screenings
  • A chance to connect with local vendors, win prizes, and join Nanaimo’s cycling community



About the Films

We keep the film program a surprise element, part of the BFF experience. What we can share:

  • Films are family-friendly, with no nudity or violence.
  • Presented in English with subtitles where needed.
  • Themes explore cycling culture, adventure, and the human spirit.


Tickets
Tickets are $31.26 in advance and $35 at the door (if available). We recommend purchasing early to secure your seat and save.



Venue & Logistics
  • Location: Malaspina Theatre, Vancouver Island University
  • Parking: Please use VIU Parking Lot F or G (accessible via Fifth Street) for the closest access to the theatre. Parking fees are not included.
  • Cyclists: Complimentary attended bike valet is included for all attendees.
  • Coat Check: A dedicated space will be available for coats (subject to capacity). Please note we are not responsible for personal belongings.
  • Accessibility: The theatre is wheelchair accessible. Please contact us for additional accessibility needs.



This event is proudly hosted by Hub City Cycles Community Co-op, a local non-profit organization. All proceeds from the festival go directly back into:

  • Supporting community cycling events
  • Sustaining the Hub City Cycles bike shop, which provides accessible bike repairs, resources, and education for Nanaimo

Your ticket does more than get you into the festival — it helps us build the future. All proceeds go directly to Hub City Cycles, funding cycling programs now and raising funds for a new Youth Education Program launching in 2027.

When you join us at the Bicycle Film Festival, you’re not just buying a ticket; you’re investing in the next generation of riders and community leaders.

Together, we’re creating a stronger cycling culture in Nanaimo. Every $31 ticket helps us move closer to launching a youth-focused cycling education program in 2026.
