As followers of Christ, we have been commissioned to “make disciples of all nations” (Matt. 28:19). In fulfilling this mandate, believers will often find themselves engaged in the work of counseling—coming alongside others to apply the Word of God to the joys and struggles of life. Scripture reminds us that this ministry of equipping believers belongs to the Church (Eph. 4:11–16), and so we desire to be faithful in preparing God’s people for this calling. For this reason, we are hosting a two-day conference on the Foundations of Biblical Counseling, with the aim of equipping believers with both a biblical vision and practical tools for counseling within the context of the local church.
We are honored to welcome Dr. Jonathan K. Okinaga, Professor of Biblical Counseling at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. With more than a decade of ministry and counseling experience, as well as pastoral service in the local church, Dr. Okinaga brings both theological depth and pastoral wisdom to this vital topic.
As a church, our goal is not to create a separate department of counseling, but rather to cultivate a culture of biblical counseling within the church—a culture where discipleship includes the faithful application of Scripture to every area of life. Our prayer is that this event will further equip believers for the call of discipleship, training them to lovingly and biblically guide others through both the trials and triumphs of life.
