Last Night At The Hollywood Canteen by Sarah James (Mystery)Join Bi+ Pride Milwaukee for a book discussion at the LGBT Community Center!
December's book is a glittering mystery novel set in 1943, the height of Hollywood's Golden Age... in the midst of Word War II, the Studio System, Hayes Code Censorship, and dazzling stardom. We follow bisexual playwright Annie Laurence from New York to Hollywood, where she starts writings scripts for movies... and witnesses a murder at the Hollywood Canteen - a real-life place staffed each night by stars from different studios, where servicemen shipping out could see shows put on by stars like Bette Davis, The Andrews Sisters, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, and Louis Armstrong before heading off to war.
And in Annie's case... witness a murder, become the prime suspect, and have to prove her innocence with the help (or hindrance) of the Dorothy Parker-esque set of famous friends she's just met.
