The workshop typically begins with an overview of Bharatanatyam`s history, significance, and its place in Indian culture. Participants learn about the origins of the dance, its traditional costumes, and the musical accompaniment. Participants are introduced to the fundamental steps and postures of Bharatanatyam, known as adavus. These include steps such as Tatta Adavu, Natta Adavu, and Mandi Adavu, which form the building blocks of the dance vocabulary. Abhinaya, or expressional aspect, is a crucial component of Bharatanatyam. Participants are taught how to emote using their face, eyes, and body language to convey a range of emotions, stories, and themes.
