Join us to celebrate International Women’s Day with a guided hike through the stunning Epping Forest, followed by our first ever Black Girls Hike social. The route is circular, starting and finishing at the Epping Forest Visitor Centre, and offers an opportunity to connect with nature, history, and community in a welcoming and supportive space.

This event is delivered in partnership with the Epping Forest Heritage Trust and will be guided by an EFHT team member, with support from Black Girls Hike hosts. It forms part of the Epping Forest Heritage for All project, made possible through funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The project seeks to inspire people from all backgrounds to engage with the Forest’s rich heritage, build a stronger sense of belonging, and encourage shared care for this landscape so it can be enjoyed, celebrated, and protected - now and for generations to come. Black Girls Hike are proud partners in supporting this vision.

On this guided walk, you will explore both the natural and cultural heritage of the forest, learning how people have interacted with, shaped, and protected this landscape over generations. Epping Forest is a nationally significant landscape spanning over 6,000 acres of ancient woodland. Shaped by centuries of human care and stewardship, the forest is home to remarkable oak and beech trees, many pollarded since medieval times.

The walk will be followed by our first ever Black Girls Hike social at the Visitor Centre, an opportunity for us to meet in person, connect, and spend time together in a relaxed setting. This is a chance to get to know one another beyond the trail, meet Black Girls Hike’s founder Rhiane, and create meaningful connections within the BGH community.

We will provide light refreshments and a fun icebreaker, and you’ll leave knowing a little more about Black Girls Hike, Epping Forest as a beautiful natural space, and the wonderful women who make up our community.

Terrain: Woodland paths throughout. Paths may be muddy, especially after recent rainfall, so suitable footwear is essential.

What to bring: Sturdy hiking boots with ankle support (waterproof recommended), snacks, water, warm layers, waterproofs, and weather appropriate clothing.
