Join us for a family friendly day exploring Ilam Park at the National Trust for a range of nature based arts & craft activities
Join Black Girls Hike and the National Trust for a delightful day of nature-inspired fun and creativity! Discover the wonders of the natural world under the picturesque arches of the Italian garden in Ilam, Peak District.
This event is in partner will be led by Ellie (Visitor Experience) and Andy (Ranger) with support of NT & BGH volunteers & staff
10.30am - 12.00pm
Activities:
-Clay Tile Making: Press found natural treasures (leaves, flowers, twigs) into clay to create unique patterns on your very own tiles.
-DIY Plant Pots: Craft paper pots and plant wildflower seeds to create your own mini-garden.
-Natural Bird Feeders: Build bird feeders using natural materials to attract feathered friends to your backyard.
-Nature Crowns: Fashion beautiful crowns adorned with flowers, leaves, and other natural elements.
-Moth Trap ID & Bug Hunting: Embark on a guided adventure to identify moths caught in a special trap and explore the meadow for fascinating bugs.
Schedule:
This is a drop-in event, so arrive anytime between 10.30am and 12.00pm. Feel free to explore the activities at your own pace and choose the ones that spark your interest. Volunteers will be on hand to provide guidance and support.
Location:
The event will take place under the arches of the Italian garden at Ilam Hall, Peak District National Park. Look for signs and our friendly staff to guide you.
2pm – 3.30pm
Optional summer nature spotting walk around Ilam Park – led by staff, this will take the group around Ilam to highlight some of the amazing nature we have and encourage wider exploration of the parkland. We will end the walk in our natural play area where families can either stay and play or head home.

Tea and coffee and soft drinks will be provided but please bring a packed lunch.
Additional Information:
This event is suitable for all ages and abilities.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Please respect the environment and leave no trace.
In case of rain, the event will be moved to a covered area.
Start Time: 10.30am
End Time: 3pm
Meeting point will be detailed in the confirmation email.
How much is it? FREE
Difficulty: Easy/Moderate – Walk through Ilam Estate. Expect some inclines, uneven ground, there are well made paths for part of the walk and some open fields, which will be muddy if there has been rainfall.
Age: Families and children. Babies under 2 do not need to be registered on the event.

Can I come to Black Girls Hike?
As the name suggests, this is a safe space for Black/Mixed Race cis and trans women and non-binary people of Black African and / or Caribbean descent who are comfortable in a space that centres the experiences of Black women. We are not a BAME, POC, BIPOC, WOC, Politically Black or Ally organisation.
