KU Leuven bestaat maar liefst 600 jaar en viert dat met een groot verjaardagsconcert. We vroegen aan componist Kevin Houben om een gloednieuw muziekstuk te schrijven. Zijn eerdere creaties maken deel uit van het repertoire van verschillende orkesten in Europa, Australië, Japan en de Verenigde Staten. Als dirigent schopte Kevin het zelfs tot op het podium van Tomorrowland.
Voor de uitvoering doen we beroep op jong talent uit eigen huis: meer dan 250 student-muzikanten uit het Universitair Symfonisch Orkest, Universitair Harmonieorkest en het Leuvens Universitair Koor zullen het podium delen.
Bij de compositie hoort ook een libretto. Maud Vanhauwaert, de spannendste dichter van het land en de vorige writer-in-residence van KU Leuven, zorgde voor een poëtische en beklijvende zangtekst.

KU Leuven will proudly celebrate its 600th anniversary with a grand birthday concert. We’ve commissioned Kevin Houben to create a brand-new musical piece. His previous compositions are widely performed by orchestras across Europe, Australia, Japan, and the United States. As a conductor, he even took the stage at Tomorrowland.
The performance itself of 𝘉𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘻𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 is in good hands with exceptional in-house talent, as more than 250 students musicians from the University Symphony Orchestra, University Harmony Orchestra, and the Leuven University Choir will share the stage.
The composition is accompanied by a libretto crafted by Maud Vanhauwaert, our very own writer-in-residence until this academic year. Through the use of ancient and Gregorian techniques, Kevin has transformed her poetic lyrics into an innovative and contemporary choral arrangement.
