Purpose of the Event:

To shine a spotlight on the often-overlooked impact of gambling harms on "affected others" – the friends, family members, and communities surrounding individuals experiencing gambling issues. The event aims to foster deeper understanding, open dialogue, and collective action to support those indirectly affected.


Target Audience:

  • Individuals with lived experience as affected others
  • Friends and family of people impacted by gambling
  • Professionals working in the gambling harm reduction and support services sectors
  • Researchers, community leaders, and policymakers
  • Anyone interested in learning more about the wider societal impact of gambling

Event Highlights:

  • Guest Speakers with powerful stories and insights from personal experience as affected others
  • Presentations by researchers and specialist organisations working to reduce gambling harms
  • Contributions from respected support services including:

Gordon Moody, Shama Women’s Centre & Peer Aid

  • Networking opportunities to build connections and foster collaboration across the support and lived experience communities

  • Give voice to those often underrepresented in the gambling harm conversation
  • Share research, resources, and support strategies
  • Build networks among stakeholders working toward harm reduction and recovery support
