The next installment of our Portraits Programming explores jazz as a medium for telling our portrait subjects’ stories. Our three upcoming concerts not only illuminate but celebrate the lives, vision, and accomplishments of Sojourner Truth, William and Martha Brown, and Frederick Douglass. This series concept is truly unique and should not be missed.

Avery Sharpe, one of his generations greatest and most imaginative bassist, pays tribute to ex-slave, woman suffrage advocate, and abolitionist of the 19th century Sojourner Truth by performing pieces from his 2012 recording “Ain’t I a Woman”.
