As Dentists, we remember what it was like in fourth year about to graduate Dentistry – with a little trepidation, lack of confidence and real world, clinical experience. All it took was someone to take us under their wing to give us the confidence to start our professional journey. With decades of combined experience in the field, we are thrilled to share the top things we have learned over the years including the pros and cons of different practice models, what it takes to build a solid team, investing in yourself and so much more. About the Presenters:
Dr. Mike Barker
Dr. Mike Barker is a distinguished dentist with a long-standing commitment to excellence in oral healthcare. Born and raised in Regina, he pursued his undergraduate education at the University of Regina before attending the University of Saskatchewan Dental School, where he graduated in 1980.
For over 40 years, Dr. Barker has practiced as a general dentist in Moose Jaw, building a reputation for his exceptional skills and dedication. He is now a valued partner at Main Street Dental, a renowned 24-chair clinic, where he collaborates with esteemed colleagues Dr. Kell Viczko, Dr. Tinashe Mutswanaa, and Dr. Ly Truong—fellow University of Saskatchewan graduates.
Dr. Barker is passionate about all aspects of dentistry, with a particular interest in practice management and team building. He thrives on learning new techniques and exploring innovative treatments to provide the best care for his patients. His enthusiasm for his work is evident in his daily interactions, and he finds joy in the continual growth and development of his practice.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Barker is a proud father of six children, two of whom are dentists and one a hygienist, reflecting a strong family legacy in the dental field. His dedication to both his family and his patients underscores his commitment to making a positive impact in the world of dentistry.
Dr. Kell Viczko
Dr. Kell Viczko graduated from the University of Saskatchewan Dental School in 1998. He gained early surgical experience through internships in Kingston, Jamaica, and at UConn Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut, before completing a residency at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, New York.
He moved to Moose Jaw with his wife, Kara, and joined Main Street Dental, where he and Dr. Mike Barker have expanded the practice to 24 operatories with over 50 staff members. Dr. Viczko has practiced general dentistry in Moose Jaw for 25 years, raising four children in the community.
Dr. Viczko is committed to continual professional growth, having completed numerous continuing education courses, including those in reconstruction and occlusion, training at the American Laser Institute and Align Technologies, a mini-residency in implantology, and recent certifications in obstructive sleep apnea and myofunctional therapy.
Outside of his dental career, Dr. Viczko and Kara have launched several ventures, including an equestrian riding center for disadvantaged individuals. He enjoys real estate, cheering on his kids in equestrian sports and motocross, hunting, fishing, golf, and exploring new ventures.
