Who are you, and what do you do?
Hello! I’m Dr. Jessica Weis (you can call me Jess), a licensed clinical psychologist working in private practice at Teton Psychological Services. I provide evidence-based therapy and assessment to individuals ages 6+. I’m originally from Northern California and moved to Driggs from Portland, Oregon in 2018, seeking mountain adventures and a slower pace of life with my now husband and dog, Scout.
I obtained my doctorate in clinical psychology from Pacific University in Oregon. I completed my predoctoral internship at Wasatch Behavioral Health in Provo, Utah, where I received generalist training in psychological assessment and therapy across the lifespan. My postdoctoral residency was completed at the Clark County Community Consortium in Vancouver, Washington, where I received specialized training in child and adolescent clinical psychology within forensic and school-based settings. Prior to starting private practice, I was the clinical director at a local child/adolescent residential treatment facility and have worked in various settings including hospitals, schools, Veterans Affairs (VA), and community mental health. I provide training, workshops, and consultation on topics I am passionate about including burnout prevention and self-care, restorative practices, and trauma-informed care. Finally, I serve as the Private Sector Representative for the Idaho Psychological Association (IPA).
What will your talk focus on?
Stress is a natural response to everyday challenges and pressures we face that can affect both our mind and body. The stress response impacts nearly every system of the body, including how we feel and behave. Small amounts of stress may be beneficial, as it can improve athletic performance, motivation, and reactions to our environment. However, unmanaged and chronic stress directly impacts our mental and physical health, increases our disease risk, and can reduce our quality of life.
This talk focuses on evidence-based strategies to manage life’s stressors and reduce the negative impact of stress.
The format is intended to be fluid and interactive, while incorporating didactic information, with opportunities to ask questions and engage in group discussion.
Objectives:
-Overview of the stress response including what it is and how it
affects our body and mind
-Stress self-assessment
-Stress management strategies with a focus on:
-Identifying factors that contribute to stress
-Improving sleep and sleep hygiene
-Mindfulness, muscle relaxation, and community building
experiential exercises
What’s one key takeaway or benefit attendees can expect?
Attendees can expect to leave this talk with tangible tools, strategies, and resources to help manage life’s daily stressors.
