Beyond Colonization with Darien Thera, PhD.
Darien Thira is a registered psychologist who has served as a community development/mental health consultant for Indigenous communities across Canada for over 30 years. He offers training workshops and clinical consultation related to personal and community wellness, grief, and trauma healing, “addictions,” suicide, and related fields. Darien is also a counsellor, clinical consultant for counsellors, and an instructor at Adler Graduate University.
A review of colonization and our risk of colonizing in the name of helping, followed by a discussion of the four branches of cultural wellness within indigenous communities. This workshop will provide the intro to a guide to assisting colonized individuals, families, and communities to reclaim cultural wellness, followed by a three-step process to decolonize our practice.
