Beyond Bricks - Social Cinema Screening

Join us for a 99p Films social cinema screening of 'Beyond Bricks', the lastest documentary film by Cornwall Climate Care.

“Housing is a basic human requirement - but the construction industry is one of the world’s biggest sources of climate emissions and landfill waste.”

Beyond Bricks investigates the balancing act needed to create hundreds of thousands of new homes in the UK without worsening the climate and ecological crises.

This is a particularly sensitive issue in Cornwall, the UK’s ‘capital of second homes’, where many thousands of people are on the housing register while huge numbers of houses lie empty.

Presented by Cornish builder Andy Carr, Beyond Bricks looks at everything from high-tech housing solutions to people building with novel, climate-friendly materials, rethinking ‘waste’ and ensuring that our future homes also leave space for nature.

Whether we own or rent our homes, we all need a roof over our heads, and Beyond Bricks is a solutions-focused film to inspire us all.

Programme for the evening:

5:45 - Doors open

6pm - Communal Feast

7pm - Social Cinema experience - We begin with a short mindful breathwork practice, before screening the film, and then opening up the room to an audience-led discussion.

Feast:

All the food for this event is sourced through the Falmouth Food Co-op, winner of the Sustainable Food or Drink category at this year’s Cornwall Sustainability Awards. Their produce supports local Cornish market gardens, including Loveland, British grains producer Hodmedods and a host of other organic and regenerative growers.

We will be working with our trusted Syrian Chef Iman, building off her signature dishes and introducing you all to some new culinary wonders. We use as much seasonal produce as possible, so will provide a confirmed menu closer to the time which will be emailed to all ticket holders.

The meal will be vegan and gluten free. Please note that food is prepared in a kitchen that handles a range of ingredients, including gluten, so may contain traces of allergens.

Please contact [email protected] for any questions or dietary requirements.
