About this Event
For this performance (the day after her birthday) Beverly is putting together two sets of music inspired by the teachers she’s had and lessons she’s learned. There will be some of her favourite songs (including intro verses!) from the Great American Songbook and beyond, as well as Brazilian bossa nova in Portuguese and English, and some of the jazz and swing originals that she and guitarist / arranger Nathan Hiltz wrote and recorded in 2014. This will be a show of gratitude for the generosity of musical mentors - and for the privilege of being on stage for more than two decades.
Beverly has had the good fortune to perform in many cities around the world, from Sao Paolo, Brazil to Moncton, New Brunswick to Tokyo, Japan and beyond. Tapping into the essence of a song – its musicality, story and feeling – is what draws Beverly deeper and deeper into musical pursuits. She’s moved by the magical time on the bandstand with jazz partners, and the connection with live (in-the-same-room) audiences, in nightclubs and restaurants, all-ages listening venues, and at concert venues and outdoor festivals. Beverly is very much looking forward to her first appearance at Neu Lokal with longtime collaborators Tania Gill (keys) and Chris Gale (sax).
