Presentation and Live Demonstration:
In this presentation and demonstration, Nikolas Papadimitriou and Eleni Konstantinidi-Syvridi will examine the highly demanding techniques used by goldsmiths and seal-engravers of the 2nd millennium BCE, which are represented in the “Princes of Pylos” exhibition currently on view at the Getty Villa in Los Angeles. Following the lecture, Akis Goumas will demonstrate the main steps of the technological processes involved in Mycenaean gold-working and Minoan seal-engraving.

Mycenaean gold-working (sheet metal, wire, granulation)
Minoan seal-engraving (soft and hard stones)
