Brief outline of the talk:
Australian documentary photographer Sarah Pannell returns to Cairo for 4 weeks as artist in resident at Out of The Circle. Sarah's practice revolves around documenting the urban and natural landscape and how people exist within our shared spaces. The common moments of everyday life that act as an anchor through Sarah's work. Seven years after her first visit to Egypt, Sarah's residency is focussed on exploring Cairo's expansive neighbourhoods. During the artist talk, Sarah will provide an overview of a range of her previous works which combine her approach to travel, documentary and fine art photography, including places such as Iran, the Balkans, Ukraine, Turkey and Egypt.
About Sarah Panell:
Sarah Pannell is a photographer and artist from Melbourne, Australia. Sarah focuses on observing and documenting shifting cultures and evolving spaces with a soft and humanistic perspective, exploring the delicate interplay between people and their environments, focusing on everyday life. Sarah has published several photographic works, including her debut monograph Tabriz to Shiraz (2019) and self-published titles such as Welcome (2024), The Territories (2015) and Sehir (2014). Sarah is a curator at Melbourne's Hillvale Gallery, and an instructor for Leica Akademie Australia.
