Learn how clever street design is transforming Canberra's city centre. No charge to attend, join us to find out more!To be ‘pedestrian’ is to be dull, ordinary or lacking in excitement. Yet, step onto the streets of any vibrant city and the act of walking is immersive and inspiring.
In Paris, we glide through the streets as flâneurs, absorbing the living gallery with each footstep. In Rome, we roam through ancient history. In New York, we pound the pavement with the relentless energy of a city that never sleeps.
“Design a good street, and you’re designing a good city,” says Rob Adams, the city-shaper behind the transformation of Melbourne’s CBD and the Director of Adams Urban.
Canberra’s streets are one of our greatest assets, making up 80% of our city’s public realm. In his latest report, Better City Streets – Canberra , Rob outlines how intentional, incremental improvements can put our city streets ahead.
On Thursday, 6 February 2025 from 5-7 pm , Salon Canberra in partnership with the City Renewal Authority will host an exclusive forum with Rob and built environment leaders to explore the report’s findings.
This event, curated for local building owners, developers and the community, will unpack the opportunities and untangle the obstacles for Canberra in the decades ahead.
What makes a good street in Canberra? And how can we pave the way for similar success across our city centre? How can the combination of densification, mixed-use development and high-quality public realm design enhance our city, one street at a time?
Join us as we perambulate through some big ideas and walk the talk together.
