Bethany was only three years old when her father, Simon, found her unconscious in her bed on June 22, 2010. She passed away from a suspected sudden cardiac arrest during the night. Bethany was always energetic and enthusiastic, and she loved making her parents and friends laugh.In 2015, Bethany's father established the Bethany-Shannon Memorial Ice Hockey Festival to honour his daughter's memory and bring light to a dark time of year. The festival has been held for 9 years, except for 2020 to 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2023, the memorial festival returned triumphantly with its history's closest and most exciting memorial match. After the memorial match, eight teams will compete in a series of mini-games to vie for either the memorial shield or the memorial cup.
The event is open to the public and free to attend. If you haven't been to an ice hockey event before, this would be a great experience.
