-- THE IDEA --
Having opened its doors in 2022, the House of Music Hungary is a unique musical institution. Nestled amongst the trees in City Park, this remarkable building, designed by Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto, notably houses Hungary’s first comprehensive exhibition exploring the history of music.
The Berlin-Budapest Express will take place across the venue’s indoor and outdoor stages, allowing us to make the most of the warm weather. Before or after attending the Berlin-Budapest Express, you can visit the beautiful Széchenyi Thermal Baths – the city’s largest and oldest medicinal spa, which is just an 8-minute walk from the venue.
As the name of the series suggests, we encourage our Berlin-based guests and artists to travel to Budapest via the scenic rail routes, allowing you to experience the physical connection between the cities on this journey. Alternatively, there is also a direct bus from Berlin for under 30 Euros. We recommend staying at our partner hotel mamaison, which is only a 10-minute walk from the venue.
With lots to offer in the way of music, culture, and history, Budapest is the perfect place to escape Berlin for the weekend. We are excited to connect with such a culturally rich country through the Berlin-Budapest Express.

-- THE PROGRAMME --
The first-ever Berlin-Budapest Express will kick off the summer with a two-day, predominantly electronic music festival, showcasing artists and forward-thinking music from Berlin and Budapest (and other places).
On the opening day, Friday 2 June, the UK bass Hyperdub star Loraine James and one of the greats of industrial techno, Powell, will take to the stage; while on Saturday 3 June we will see the Budapest premiere of German contemporary composer Sven Helbig as well as one of Berlin's most exciting electronic musicians, Grischa Lichtenberger.
Both days will close with free open-air concerts: on Friday, the traditional Németh András-Istvánfi Balázs bagpipe band will perform, and on Saturday, Norbert Oláh and his band will play traditional gypsy café music.
The Berlin-Budapest Express is organised by the House of Music Hungary in cooperation with the Berlin-based cultural organisation Digital in Berlin. The idea behind the weekend, as simple as it sounds, is to connect two culturally vibrant European capitals – preferably with a train journey in the classical sense – and to create a forum for cross-genre exchanges and innovative musical activities.
Day tickets and combined season tickets are available.
For the second weekend in September, we will present performances from Berlin-based computer musician Jessica Ekomane, Catalan vocalist Marina Herlop, Slovenian folk trio Širom, and American voice artist Holland Andrews.

++ Nyárindító, kétnapos, műfaji határokon átívelő és elektronikus zenei fesztivál ++
A Berlin-Budapest Expressz első alkalommal egy nyárindító, kétnapos – döntően – elektronikus zenei fesztivál, ami részben Berlinből, részben Budapestről (részben pedig más helyekről) mutat be műfaji határokon átívelő előadókat, előremutató zenéket.
A pénteki nyitónapon az angol Loraine James, a Hyperdub kiadó egyik UK bass sztárja, és az indusztriális techno nagyágyúja, Powell lép színpadra. Június 3-án, szombaton pedig Sven Helbig német kortárs zeneszerző első budapesti ősbemutatója lesz, illetve Berlin egyik legizgalmasabb elektronikus művésze, Grischa Lichtenberger zenél. Mindkét nap ingyenes szabadtéri koncert zárja a programot: pénteken a Németh András–Istvánfi Balázs tradicionális tekerő-duda duó koncertezik, szombaton Oláh Norbert és zenekara játszik hagyományos kávéházi cigányzenét.
