Pennywort Paddle & Pull
Join us in removing the pesky floating pennywort at the Pennywort Paddle & Pull event! We are looking for volunteers to help as banks people to pull floating pennywort collected by Hemel Hempstead Canoe club. involve walking along the grand union canal to pull pennywort from the river onto the banks. We would love to see you there!
Floating pennywort is a highly invasive plant species present in the UK that leads to loss of native biodiveristy, increased risk of flooding and decreased water quality. Continued managment and removal is essential, so we could really use your help to protect our rivers from this plant.

Parking for banks people: The three horseshoes overflow carpark, 48 Winkwell, Pouchen End Ln, Bourne End, Hemel Hempstead HP1 2RZ
Parking for those in canoes: at the junction of Little Heath Lane and Pix Farm Lane (what3words is visits.prop.score, google maps https://maps.app.goo.gl/pFe7zCaVuZxvq4Pr5)
We will be beginning at 10AM with a quick introductory and safety talk. Following this canoeists will be enter the water and banks people will collect floating pennywort that is guided to the side of the bank and place this to decompose along the bank. We will be working down the grand union canal from the starting point, with the aim of reaching the Three Horseshoes. We will break for a half hour lunch at 12, so please bring food and a way to carry this!
What to bring/wear
Appropriate clothing for the weather and waterproof clothing.
Suitable shoes.
Waterproof gloves (such as those for washing up). If you do not have any some will be provided.
Water and lunch and a way to carry this.
A spare pair of clothes in case you get wet.
