Bengal Biennale seeks to invoke the multilayered cultural heritage and intellectual history of a liberal Bengal, a leading light for discourses on art, social justice, and spiritual and critical thinking in India. By fostering meaningful exchanges between compatible and contesting ideas on art and beyond, the Bengal Biennale is collaborating with around 20 established and burgeoning art institutes in Santiniketan and Kolkata to create a multipronged, context-sensitive platform, engaging over 100 artists, performers, scholars, curators, and other cultural practitioners in a dialogue with the public.
Drawing inspiration from Bengal's progressive and cosmopolitan past, besides purely aesthetic considerations, the Bengal Biennale aspires to ignite contemporary conversations on socio-political and environmental issues through the language of art, encouraging a deeper understanding and appreciation of different perspectives.
