On September 2nd, our world was turned upside down when Charles George Stegura—“Charlie” to many, “Dad” and “Papa” to us—was suddenly diagnosed with AML (acute myeloid leukemia). The strongest, most dependable man we know went from working long days as a diesel mechanic to being admitted to Roswell, where he will spend 4–6 weeks receiving treatment.Charlie has always been the kind of man who puts everyone else first. A devoted husband, a hardworking and thoughtful father, and a sweet, bragging, spoiling grandfather of four—he has dedicated his entire life to providing for his family. If you even mention wanting something, Papa is already making sure you have it. He’s the one who fixes everything, finds a way no matter what, and never says "no" when someone needs help.
Now, he’s facing the biggest challenge of his life. To reach full remission, Charlie will need a bone marrow transplant. While his medical team is hopeful, his road to recovery will be long. Even after the initial hospital stay, he will be out of work for at least another 3 months. As the sole provider for the household, this has placed a heavy financial strain on the family.
The funds raised will go directly toward helping the family stay afloat and covering the overwhelming medical costs that continue to accrue. Every donation—no matter the amount—will go directly toward easing the burden of lost income so Charlie can focus fully on his recovery and healing.
If you are unable to donate, we simply ask that you keep Charlie and our family in your prayers and share this event. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the love, encouragement, and generosity you’ve shown.
