“We Palestinians wake up every morning to teach the rest of the world life, sir,” writes Palestinian poet Rafeef Ziadah. The final painting by Frida Kahlo, which inspired our poster, features watermelons bearing the words Viva la Vida—“Long live life”. Today, the watermelon stands as a powerful symbol of Palestinian resistance.
In our beautiful city of Leuven, the seeds of Palestinian resilience are being sown not only by our Palestinian community but also by all of us who stand in unwavering solidarity. Together, we nurture these seeds through shared struggle, joy, and hope.
The Viva la Vida Party is organised by four friends -Koen, Lies, Katrien and Brunilda- with the support of Stuk Café and Leuven Coalition for Palestine. Our joyful gathering is an ode to life, from Leuven to Palestine. As Palestine’s heart beats within us, let our joy ripple to Palestine and return as strength.
The entrance fees (10 euros) and the additional donations which you are encouraged to make, will go to the Basmat Amal Foundation for Cancer Patient Care, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and integrated care for cancer patients in the Gaza Strip. Your contribution directly funds essential services for the affected people, giving them hope and dignity under extreme duress and adversity.
Looking forward to seeing you all there, and please share our Save the Date with your friends.
