Prepare to be captivated by an evening of evocative movement stories as RKDC presents "Beneath the Surface: Dances from Within," a fall performance exploring the depths of human emotion through contemporary dance. The performance features an eclectic lineup of six works that uncover the rich narratives beneath our shared human experiences.Headlining the evening is the world premiere of Artistic Director Regina Klenjoski’s newest creation, "Nest," a poignant reflection on the grace of letting go. Through this intimate work, Klenjoski contemplates the natural process of release, capturing the delicate balance between vulnerability and resilience as we navigate life’s inevitable transitions.
Adding dynamic contrast to the program is "Mix 'N Mingle," an abstract and energetic piece by guest choreographer Kia S. Smith, hailed as one of Dance Magazine’s Top 25 to Watch. Smith, Artistic Director of Chicago's South Chicago Dance Theatre, brings her signature fast-paced, expressive movements to the stage, set to familiar music that highlights the dancers' exceptional technique and artistry as they bring the abstract choreography to life.
The concert also features several returning favorites, including "Rank of Angels," an exploration of the nine celestial orders in angelology, and "Silhouettes," an beautiful duet performed by dancers Rhiannon Vieyra and Aviance Battles that delves into the enduring bonds of friendship. Rounding out the evening are "In the Moment," a celebration of the sheer joy of movement, and a new solo work by Klenjoski that embodies delicacy and lightness, revealing the hidden and unseen beauty that lies just beneath the surface.
"Beneath the Surface: Dances from Within" promises an evening of exciting and emotionally charged performances. The program showcases not only the depth of contemporary dance but also the universal stories that connect us all.
