Ben Wheeler, an American ethnomusicologist and experimental musician based in Tbilisi, Georgia, researches on folk music of the Caucasus, including music sung in endangered languages and almost extinct instruments. He runs the label Mountains of Tongues, and also cooperates with bigger labels such as Bongo Joe to release his compilations. He played an important role in the international popularization of Azerbaijani guitar music, being one of the compilers of the recent releases of Rahman Mammadli and Rüstam Quliyev. As a musician he currently records under the name Bneleti ('Land of Darkness' in archaic Georgian). On the tour of his forthcoming album he will be playing with an electric guitar, Azerbaijani saz, and modular synthesizer. The music carries elements from Georgian polyphony, Azeri folk music, dark ambient, drone, synthesizer experimentalism, with some overtones of black metal. In the link you can see an excerpt from a live performance recorded at Arno Babajanyan concert hall in Yerevan, when Ben was invited to play an opening set for Jozef Van Wissem. His set on the tour will be similar to this:

MUŠHUŠŠU is a mythical beast—a hybrid of eagle and lion, the familiar of the Babylonian god Marduk—as well as an electro-acoustic duo of double bass and live electronics. Mušhuššu explores a foggy sonic landscape of rustle and rumble, amplifying unstable gentle sounds coming from the double bass. The long semi-improvised set will be prepared for the multichannel surround possibilities of Punctum.
Luan Gonçalves – double bass
Mikuláš Mrva – live electronics
